The past, present and future walked into a bar. It was tense.
When the international e-book publisher Bookboon asked me to write a Business English grammar book, my first thought was to focus on the tenses.
In over 20 years’ experience of teaching to learners of English as a foreign or second language, the tenses have always posed the biggest challenge.
I decided I would write a story in which a couple in the hotel industry travel around Europe purchasing materials and supplies for their hotel. This seemed like a great job to me! Each chapter focuses on a different tense, covering the structures with auxiliary verbs and how positive, negative and question sentences are formed.
The vocabulary covered is curated specifically to reflect common business phrases so readers can pick up key vocabulary as they go along. The aim is for learners to move to B1 level (independent user of a foreign language) with a solid grasp of the grammatical tenses to match their level of fluency.
Reaching B1 in Business English Grammar is currently available as an e-book and was written for speakers of German. However, a version with explanations in English should also be available on Bookboon soon.
